POSTNATAL ACUPUNCTURE GOLD COAST

A nurtured welcome into parenthood

CRUISE THE TIDES
You obsessed over the pregnancy – tracked baby’s size in vegetables…
Binged birth podcasts and joined Facebook groups. Bought tiny clothes and adorable socks.
You lost count of how long you considered which pram to get, or if the Snoo was for you.
Then after so much suspense – it happened. You experienced the life-altering experience of birth.
And it dawned on you – none of your preparation was for new parenthood.
Know this: it’s absolutely not your fault – but there is a bright way forward

This next life chapter matters. Welcome

Birth is the most dramatic hormonal shift experienced in a lifetime

In Chinese culture, 30 – 40 days of rest is prescribed. The mother is fed warming foods, does not cook or clean or leave the house.

In Korea, new mothers spend 3 weeks to 100 days staying with their mother or mother in law in postpartum care centres.

In India, a 40 days rest period sees the mother bathed daily with herbal preparations, fed warming foods, has her abdomen bound and receives daily oil massages. She is shielded from housework, visitors and emotional stress.

Western culture sends new mothers home, alone into the unknown

When in reality, there’s no real system in place for nutrition…

Or housework, no prolonged physical support with the baby…

No real acknowledgement of the body being through a major experience…

No real elder women wisdoms, just endless social media opinions in repeat.

Nourish the mother. Nourish the family.

The postnatal period sees the most dramatic physical, mental and emotional transformation of a lifetime.

The body literally creates more estrogen in one pregnancy than in an entire lifetime when not pregnant.

Then, once the baby is born this dramatically plummets. Along with fluctuating progesterone, cortisol and prolactin on the rise.

(Not to mention the sleep deprivation, dehydration and whole new world you’re navigating).

Your brain literally changes after giving birth – the way your postpartum experience unfolds impacts everything.

Your recovery shapes everything that follows

In Chinese Medicine, the “Golden Month” directly after giving birth has a profound effect on the future, for decades (or even a lifetime) to come.

During this time, the body is depleted, vulnerable and open. It’s believed that a deficient sea of blood can lead to chronic joint pain, persistent fatigue, recurring headaches, cold sensitivity, menstrual irregularity and emotional fragility for years to come.

The good news is, this deeply sensitive time also creates the perfect conditions for the body to receive nourishment, replenish and restore.

Hi, I’m Paige

FERTILITY WAYFINDER | QUALIFIED FERTILITY ACUPUNCTURIST | MOTHER | LIFELONG SEEKER

I remember being pregnant and people telling me how hard new motherhood was going to be. I was set on having a positive experience and tried to block them out. I really just thought they were bringing down my vibe!

It’s not that I wished I had listened (and I’m not here to be that same buzzkill voice to you). But I do wish I had a plan in place for this season.

I had put a lot more effort into thinking about what my birth might look like than what my parenting experience was going to be. I was underprepared for the level of tiredness, the level of needing to show up, and the lack of support around me.

There are definitely ways I could have set myself up for success – and it would be my pleasure to support you. So you don’t have to face the same loneliness, physical depletions and mental chaos that I did. With more care for the mother and parents. I believe this can be a positive element of your story.

FAQs

The postnatal period places significant demands on the body. Acupuncture supports recovery by replenishing energy and blood, rebalancing hormones, supporting lactation and addressing common postnatal concerns including mood changes, fatigue and physical recovery.

Treatment can begin as early as one to two weeks after birth, depending on your recovery. The first three to six months postpartum are considered the most important window for support in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Yes. Acupuncture can support milk supply, ease mastitis and address the physical demands that breastfeeding places on the body.

Treatment targets blood loss recovery, hormonal rebalancing, energy restoration and emotional support all of which are central to healthy postnatal recovery. Lifestyle and nutritional guidance is included as part of your treatment plan.

I would love for this to be a safe space to come alone. If you’re able to bring a support person who is able to be with your baby during your treatment, this is ideal. There’s a cafe attached to our building and also some pathways for walks.

Though if it isn’t possible, please don’t let that stop you from coming in. You’re welcome to bring your baby in a pram, on our postnatal clinic day (Wednesday 7.30am – 1pm). Please let me know if you will be bringing your baby ahead of time and I will give you further instructions about the lift.

You are welcome to book separately. Or, if you’d like to book together, know there is only one of me so I will see you directly one after another for acupuncture treatments. What some couples like to do is book for one of you, while the other takes the baby to the cafe or out for a walk in the pram, then swap. This way there’s no need for an extra support person. Ideally we will complete the birth debrief and emotional check-in together, though if this isn’t possible that is absolutely fine too.

Yes.

The Parent Package offers care to the birthing and non-birthing parent.

Whole family wellbeing is incredibly important for everyone involved. Healthy parents care for healthy children and create a healthy environment for everyone to thrive.

Yes.

If you are the non-birthing parent, new parenthood still takes an incredible toll on the body, mind and psyche. We work to stabilise the nervous system, create a safe space for conversation and provide lifestyle and nutritional support for you to navigate this life chapter with confidence.

Technically no (but kind of).

Children aren’t invited into clinic appointments (to ensure your safety and a relaxed experience).

There is a cafe downstairs, so you may also choose to bring a friend or grandparent to keep them company while you relax in your treatment.

No referral needed. To get started, book a free 20-minute Connection Call with me (Paige). This will give us a chance to meet, discuss your journey and make sure IVF Acupuncture is right for you. If it’s not, we may point you towards a better fit service, or part ways. No pressure, and no hard feelings.

This service is exclusively available to Paige Waters Acupuncture fertility, pregnancy and IVF clients. We will work to book your service to begin after your birth, at a time that feels right for you.

Just yourself and your partner, if applicable.

Eat a light meal beforehand and stay well hydrated. Avoid caffeine and strenuous exercise in the hours before your appointment. Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing where possible as most acupuncture points are located on the hands, feet, abdomen and back, so clothing that can be easily moved or rolled up is ideal.

Where many practitioners offer acupuncture broadly, Paige brings advanced-level training and specialised training to treatments for fertility. This approach combines biomedicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and functional medicine to investigate underlying causes, treat them and adapt to new conditions within the body.

A calm, welcoming environment with a focus on personalised care. Every appointment is unhurried, with no surprise charges and a clear, straightforward process from booking through to treatment.

Pricing varies by service and will be discussed during your free 20-minute Connection Call with Paige.

Yes. We have HiCAPS facilities so you can receive your rebate immediately. Item numbers are 103 for an initial consultation and 203 for a follow up consultation. I recommend checking directly with your provider to confirm your level of cover.

Acupuncture is a technique used by Chinese Medicine practitioners. It involves inserting fine, medical-grade, single-use needles into specific points on the body.

These points lie on meridians which connect to internal organs, and can strengthen or reduce energy associated with that organ.

In Chinese Medicine, disease is seen as an imbalance of the energy of the internal organs. Acupuncture works to rectify this imbalance and alleviate disease.

Mostly, it feels relaxing. You very rarely feel the needles being inserted. Once the needle is in the correct position, you may feel a dull ache in the local area. Occasionally a slight sting may be felt, which quickly disappears. For tight muscles, you may feel a sensation of movement or release once the needle is inserted. When moxa is used on the end of a needle, you will feel a gentle warmth.

Usually no, but in some cases it can. Though in a way similar to how a gentle workout hurts.

We use the best quality stainless steel needles to minimise friction and maximise comfort. I also have Japanese style training, which uses a gentler needle technique.

Some discomfort may be felt in areas of muscle tension or if you move once a needle has been inserted, but most clients find acupuncture deeply relaxing.

Chinese medicine is one of the oldest forms of healthcare that exists today. It is based on the theory that our bodies are an integrated energy exchange system between ourselves, each other and the environment.

It encompasses acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, dietary and lifestyle advice all working together to bring the body into balance and optimal health.

Yes. We use only high quality, medical grade, disposable, single-use stainless steel acupuncture needles from Japan.

Moxibustion involves the burning of a specific herb, mugwort (artemesia vulgaris) to warm and strengthen the body, stimulate blood flow, support digestion and disperse muscle tension.

It can be applied directly to the skin or on the end of a needle. It is extremely safe when performed by a qualified practitioner and has a calming effect. Bonus!

Dry needling is used by physiotherapists, chiropractors and other allied health practitioners for the treatment of local musculoskeletal pain. It also includes inserting needles. While some of these points correlate with acupuncture points, the application is very different.

Dry needling addresses local pain but doesn’t treat internal conditions. Acupuncture addresses the root cause of disease as well as the presenting symptoms. Registered acupuncturists in Australia hold a minimum four year science degree and hundreds of hours of clinical practice. Dry needling courses in Australia currently include approximately 12 hours of practical needling.

This varies depending on your service and where you are in your journey. I will outline a clear and personalised schedule as part of your treatment plan.

Not yet, but watch this space.

Let’s nurture the new dawn.
