My husband and I spent my twenties (his 30s!) not not trying to have a baby.. But it never happened.

I’d started my own business inside a medical practice right next to an IVF clinic. Naturally, I began treating fertility clients. But as I was providing treatments to these beautiful clients, I began to question my own fertility.

My husband Josh and I completed the medical testing our GP sent us for. Our results all came back normal. So why hadn’t we fallen pregnant?

I booked in to see a Functional Medicine Specialist who put us on supplements, topped up our nutrition plan. Me, doing the lifestyle things we had been advised. Me also pressuring Josh to do the same.

To clear our minds and for fresh energy, we moved to Kirra to be by the water.

We continued on with the lifestyle changes for quite some time.

In Kirra I went to see a new Chinese Medicine Practitioner. He was a traditional acupuncturist and I’d been completing further fertility study at the time.

He’d put me on some herbs which traditionally aren’t recommended during the luteal phase due to the long-thought myth they cause pregnancy loss. However, that very round I fell pregnant. After 10 years of not being able to conceive.

He was white as a ghost – ‘we’ve got to get you off them!’ I reassured him with my research and study – and that’s how we had Harriet. (Today these exact herbs are used in many IVF cycles to support implantation, something my clients have experienced).

I’m of a firm belief that all our pre-work, the testing, lifestyle shifts, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine combination is what led to our daughter, and three years later our surprise second daughter, Elsie. I genuinely feel that the work we did to fall pregnant with Harriet helped us fall pregnant with Elsie without thinking.

Today I apply Traditional Chinese Medicine, biomedicine and real lived experiences to my Practice – to investigate, treat and support families bound for parenthood
